Five Questions with Isabel Leonard
Isabel Leonard will be performing at the Philadelphia Orchestra’s closing night at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The performance will be Saturday, Aug. 19 at 8 p.m.
1 Who are you?
My name is Isabel Leonard. I am an international opera singing, love of dancing and cooking, full-time mom.
2 What activities or site-seeing do you look forward to doing while visiting Saratoga Springs?
Unfortunately, my trip is incredibly short! The life of an opera singer is not always as glamorous as it seems! This one is a total of 36 hours!
3 When did you realize that you wanted to become a professional opera singer?
Becoming a professional Opera Singer was never a clearly defined goal in my mind as a young singer. As I continued my musical education, however, it became a little more clear the possibility was there. I still feel very lucky for the path I had early on that set me up to have a career right out of school, and I feel very fortunate to have such a career. Every day there is more to learn, and the path continues to evolve.
4 What do you enjoy the most about performing?
I love story telling. I enjoy expressing the words and music as it can transport us all to wonderful and possibly unknown places. Music is such a gift, and I enjoy sharing it.
5 Why are you excited to perform at SPAC?
I’m extremely excited to work with my good friends Matthew and Susanna again! I’ve known them both for many, many years now. In fact, Susanna and I went to college together! And of course, it goes without saying that I am thrilled to work with Maestro Nézet-Séguin.
