Isabel Leonard stars as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at The Metropolitan Opera
On October 1, Isabel Leonard kicked off her 2011-2012 season with a debut as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at The Met. Her performance has been described as “an assured, detailed performance as Rossini’s Rosina” and “agile and sensuous” by the New York Times. The Classical Review said “Isabel Leonard, a homegrown New York talent, has “the package” – a lovely voice, stage presence and good looks and seems perfect for the willful, beautiful and manipulative Rosina.” Bartlett Sher’s 2006 production has been revived and Maurizio Benini is said to conduct the orchestra with “idiomatic Italian exuberance”.
