‘Cold Mountain’ at Opera Philadelphia
Isabel Leonard returns to the role of Ada in Cold Mountain, which makes its east coast premiere this February at Opera Philadelphia. Her portrayal in the world premiere garnered wide critical acclaim last summer at Santa Fe Opera:
“Isabel Leonard was a beautiful, believable Ada, the richness of her mezzo evoking Ada’s reserve and desire.” (The Wall Street Journal)
“Isabel Leonard traced Ada’s journey from belle to brave with her soaring, radiant voice. She is a singer who has grown from coloratura to lyric-with-punch . . .” (San Francisco Classical Voice)
Performances take place February 5, 7, 10, 12 & 14 and feature a spectacular cast including Jay Hunter Morris as Teague, with Cecilia Hall joining to sing Ruby and Jarrett Ott as Inman. Corrado Rovaris takes the podium for these performances, with a spectacular production staged by Leonard Foglia. Enjoy a video preview of this not-to-be-missed work, featuring interviews with Isabel and colleagues including composer Jennifer Higdon, librettist Gene Scheer, and writer Charles Frazier, who penned the novel on which this opera is based.
